Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with 23,000 students and over 2,600 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. OsloMet educates students and conducts research that contributes to the sustainability of the Norwegian welfare state and the metropolitan region.
The Faculty of Technology, Art and Design (TKD) offers higher education and research and development (R&D) activities within technical subjects, arts and design. The Faculty has approximately 4.000 students and 400 staff members and is situated at Pilestredet Campus in downtown Oslo and at Kjeller Campus in Viken.
The Department of Computer Science offers three bachelor’s degree programmes, a master’s degree programme, and is part of a cross-departmental PhD program. Academic staff at the department are pursuing research in a wide range of areas including computer science, the natural sciences, and innovation and management. Both students and researchers are also involved in an increasing number of interdisciplinary initiatives across the university.
Within the Computer Science department, we have a research group in mathematical modelling with interests such as mathematics, quantum physics, cosmology, biosystems, and information theory. The department includes one professor and two associate professors in mathematics and one professor and two associate professors in physics.
The faculty aims to establish a PhD-program with a branch in mathematical modelling, and a new multi-disciplinary Master’s program. This is in conjunction with HiOA’s full accreditation as a university and the establishment of a research and development collaboration between HiOA and the Simula Research Laboratory.
More information about the The Department of Computer Science and the Faculty of Technology, Art and Design can be found here.
The Department of Computer Science has a vacancy for a professor in theoretical physics. In addition to the position advertised here, the department is advertising a position in mathematics.
The appointment of a professor in theoretical physics is part of a strategic expansion of the department’s research and teaching portfolio to include quantum information theory. We are looking for a candidate with a talent and a passion for teaching, research and innovation. Candidates will be expected to have solid research experience in theoretical quantum physics, or within the development and use of mathematical methods relevant for quantum physics, preferably within the field of quantum computing/quantum information theory, for example quantum computing and cryptography, or other relevant fields such as quantum entanglement, open quantum systems, quantum decoherence or quantum field theory.
The research should be reflected in an extensive publication list and high impact. The relevance of the candidates’ research towards quantum information theory will be given much weight in the assessment. It is an advantage if the candidate can document solid competence within theoretical or mathematical topics such as fundamental quantum theory and/or functional analysis. Experience with implementation of advanced numerical methods will also count positively in the assessment.
Candidates will be expected to actively strengthen and shape the academic and research work at the department and the university college's research community in general, including interdisciplinary work across departments at the Faculty for Technology, Arts Design and with other faculties at HiOA.
The candidate will be responsible for securing external funding. Experience with applying for NFR, EU, or similar grants is an advantage.
Tasks and responsibilities
Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the positions are as follows:
The general criteria for appointment to a position as professor/associate professor are set out in the «Forskrift om ansettelse og opprykk i undervisnings- og forskerstillinger» § 1-2, see details in Norwegian https://lovdata.no/dokument/SF/forskrift/2006-02-09-129.
Candidates who have no relevant specific qualifications in pedagogy at the time of appointment must commit themselves to complete HiOA’s programme for basic pedagogical competence (15 ECTS credits) within two years. A trial lecture will be required in connection with a personal interview.
Desired skills
Emphasis is also placed on the following skills, competence and experience:
It is important to HiOA to reflect the population of our region, and all qualified candidates are welcome to apply. We make active efforts to develop as an inclusive workplace and to adapt the workplace if required. Women are strongly encouraged to apply.
