The Faculty of Health Sciences consists of five departments and offers study programmes on all levels, including PhD. The faculty has about 6000 students and nearly 600 members of staff.

Department of Nursing and Health Promotion is located at all three campus: Kjeller, Pilestredet and Sandvika. The department has approximately 3000 students and 250 employees.

There is a vacancy for a permanent full-time position as an associate professor (førsteamanuensis/førstelektor) in mental health care at the Department of Nursing and Health Promotion at the Faculty of Health Sciences. The position entails research and educational tasks in the field of mental health. We want to establish closer cooperation on research and education with health and care services in the mental healthcare field, and appointment in a lower percentage of a full-time position is also possible in combination with a relevant clinical role or another relevant position.

We are looking for candidates with a strong wish to contribute to the development of mental health work in general and who want to help to raise the quality of research, knowledge dissemination, supervision and other teaching activities at several levels.

Society has a great and increasing need for health care and social work expertise in mental health care, and the authorities are requesting new educational options in this field. At the national level, work is under way on specialist education for nurses in mental health care and substance abuse.

As an associate professor, you will be part of an active and ambitious team with interdisciplinary competence, pedagogical weight and professor qualifications in mental health care. We are constantly working on academic development and the research group Mental health is developing well. The group is current engaged in projects on the topics of migration and global health, relationships and communication, and intelligent mental health. The department has seven research groups and also participates in the Ph.D. programme at the Faculty of Health Science. As an associate professor (førsteamanuensis/førstelektor), 35% of your position will be dedicated research time with the possibility for increased R&D time based on results-based incentives.

The department is undergoing a restructuring process aimed at strengthening the organisation of programmes. We have developed new programme descriptions for the bachelor degree programmes and the department’s master’s portfolio will be revised in the course of 2020/2021.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • initiate, contribute to and conduct research of high quality and academic breadth in the subject area of mental health, and publish and disseminate research results
  • cooperate with colleagues on the development of major research projects and applications for external funding
  • learning activities and assessment work in relation to theoretical studies and practical training at bachelor’s, master's and further education levels
  • supervision of project work
  • contribute to the development and strengthening of learning methods and educational activity

Qualification requirements

We are looking for candidates who have

  • qualifications equivalent to associate professor (førsteamanuensis/førstelektor) in mental health
  • a degree in health and social care
  • experience of teaching and supervision at university/university college level
  • good oral and written presentation skills in a Scandinavian language and English

Persons appointed to a position as associate professor (førsteamanuensis) must have a doctoral degree in a relevant health science area.

Persons appointed to a position as associate professor (førstelektor) must have a university degree approximately equivalent to a master's degree, a degree at second degree level under the pre-2003 system (‘hovedfag’) or a master’s degree, and documented extensive research and development work in nursing or another relevant health science field that in quality and scope corresponds to the workload and level of a doctorate degree.

General criteria for appointment to teaching and research positions are set out in the Regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts.

The applicant must document relevant educational competence. The criteria for the assessment of such competence are set out in OsloMet’s guidelines for the assessment of educational competence. Applicants who are unable to document basic educational competence upon appointment must achieve such qualifications within two years. OsloMet offers a programme in university pedagogy (UHPED) that meets this requirement.

The salary for the position is in accordance with the Basic Collective Agreement for state employees and OsloMet’s pay policy for position code 1011, førsteamanuensis/1198 førstelektor, pay grade 60-74, i.e. NOK 535,200–694,400 per year. A higher salary may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants.
