PhD Fellowship positions in genetics/genomics - Hiring in process/Finished, not possible to apply

There are two vacancies as a research fellow in a fixed-term position at the Department of Life Sciences, Faculty of Health . The research fellowship is on a Project funded by the Research Council of Norway's Large-scale Programme on Aquaculture Research. The Ph.d. degree will be affiliated to OsloMets Ph.d. program

The research fellowship period is three years without a teaching obligation / required duties. A period of four years with a 25% teaching obligation may also be an alternative for one of the positions. This will be decided when the appointment is made.

Field of work

The positions will be affiliated to a research group comprising geneticists, bioinformaticians and virologists from OsloMet, the Norwegian University of Life Sciences, the Norwegian Veterinary Institute, Nofima and the University of Oslo. The research group also cooperates closely with genetics groups in Scotland and Canada, and is at the forefront of research in its field. The research fellows may have the opportunity for short stays (up to two months) at partner institutions in Scotland and/or Canada. The project manager is Rune Andreassen, OsloMet .

The research fellows will be affiliated to the Research Council of Norway's project “Epigenetic regulation by Atlantic salmon miRNAs in disease and osmotic stress”. A description of the project is on NRC’s pages . The objective of the project is to characterise miRNA genes that are involved in (and modulate) host-pathogen response in infections as well as modulate cell homeostasis in response to stress. The research fellows will be working with analysis methods such as High-throughput sequencing/expression analysis, RT-qPCR, and cell-based assays to study miRNA target gene interaction (e.g. fana technology, CRISPR). The work will involve method development as well as development of bioinformatic analysis pipelines. The project will generate new knowledge about the role of miRNA in connection with infection and about how they regulate the immune system as well as how they contribute in regulation of cell homeostasis in response to stress.

Qualifications

• A master's degree (120 credits/ECTS) or equivalent education taken in the past 10 years is a requirement
• Good written and oral English skills are a requirement

• General competence in the field of genetics/genomics is desirable
• Experience of experimental work with RNA (RNA extraction/RT-qPCR) is desirable
• Experience with expression analyses of deep sequencing data (bioinformatics) or of work with cell-based methods for examining gene expression is desirable

The salary for the position, position code 1017 phD Fellow, currently NOK 435 500 -465 000 a year.
