The Faculty of Education and International Studies (LUI) has approximately 550 employees and 7000 students and is located in Oslo and Akershus. The Faculty is comprised of four departments as well as the National Centre of Multicultural Education (NAFO). The Faculty educates tomorrow’s teachers from kindergarten through upper secondary school, in close cooperation with the field of practical training. The Faculty offers a PhD in Education. In addition, the Faculty offers development studies and studies in sign language and interpreting. Diversity is a core value for the Faculty and its activities. The Faculty’s research and development focuses on practical training and is both profession-oriented and internationally oriented.

The Department of Vocational Teacher Education (YLU) is the leading academic community for vocational pedagogy in Norway. We offer study programmes in vocational teacher education and vocational pedagogy, postgraduate certificate education for vocational teachers (PPU-Y) and driving instructor education. The department also offers continuing and further education and does considerable contract work. We have a broad focus on research and development and work in close cooperation with schools and workplaces.

Associate Professor / Lecturer / Senior Lecturer

Traditional handcrafts in upper secondary education

The Department of Vocational Education provides education to upper secondary school teachers, and is seeking to expand the team with a new staff member with competency in teaching in the field of traditional crafts.

 Our institute is now looking for an additional Associate Professor/Lecturer/Senior Lecturer with expertise in woodworking, textiles or metal.

Your duties will mainly be

  • Teaching and supervision of students undertaking a bachelor's degree in vocational teaching
  • Follow up students on practical placement across Norway
  • Research and development work within your own research field and that of the institute

The institute sets performance requirements in R&D work, and you will be asked to join a larger research group working within a discipline related to your field of interest.

Requirements

  • PhD or Master's degree
  • Certificate of professional apprenticeship, or advanced vocational or professional education in one of the traditional crafts
  • Work experience from own occupation within the field
  • Teaching experience
  • Experience from Norwegian vocational education and training
  • Relevant digital competency
  • Good Norwegian and English skills

Documented educational education and experience will be emphasized. If you do not have relevant practical-pedagogical competence, you must complete the university's basic pedagogy program (15 credits) within two years of your appointment. If you lack Norwegian/Scandinavian language competence, language training will be offered.

Other information

The salary for the position is in accordance with the pay scale for Norwegian state employees, job title and position code. Salary starting at NOK 435 600 up to NOK 649 800 per year. A higher salary may be considered for particularly well qualified applicants.
