Faculty of Social Sciences offers study programmes within archivistics, library and information science, journalism and media studies, social work, social policy and child welfare, public management and business.

The faculty has about 4200 students and nearly 280 members of staff.

The Department has around 600 students and 40 employees and is located at the OsloMet Pilestredet Campus in Oslo. Multiple programs are offered through the department, including Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral programs in Library and Information Science and a Bachelor’s program in Archivistics and Records Management.

Project Description

The PhD fellow will work on topics related to the research group Information systems based on metadata (METAINFO). We are particularly interested in projects focused on end-users in information systems. Relevant topics could be:

  • studies of user-generated metadata
  • information seekers and their interaction with information systems
  • utilising interaction data.  

Applicants must prepare a PhD project relevant for one of these research questions.

The successful applicant will be an integrated member of the research group METATINFO, which holds regular meetings and seminars where participants can present their research. METAINFO is one of the five research groups chosen for The Booster project at HiOA.

The duration of the PhD fellowship is three years.

Qualifications and requirements

Required qualifications:

  • Education on Master's degree level in a relevant field
  • Ability to communicate well in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work independently and be goal oriented
  • Professional involvement

Desired background:

  • Relevant research experience
  • Experience in publishing academic works and participation in international seminars/conferences

Conditions:

  • The PhD positions presuppose admission to the PhD Programme
  • A final plan for the PhD scholarship shall be approved and made contractual no later than 3 months after commencement of the fellowship.

In the assessment of the applicants, the project description and the project’s relevance to the PhD program’s research area will be emphasized. The proposal must indicate that the project will realistically lead to a doctoral degree within the three-year period. The proposal should consist of maximum 10 pages and include the following elements:

  • Research questions, theory and method
  • Relevant knowledge within the research area
  • Schedule for the educational and research plan

Salary is set in accordance with the Norwegian State Salary Scale, job code 1017, wage level 50 (NOK 435 500).
