Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with almost 22,000 students and over 2,500 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. OsloMet educates students and conducts research that contributes to the sustainability of the Norwegian welfare state and the metropolitan region.

Faculty of Social Sciences offers study programmes within archivistics, library and information science, journalism and media studies, social work, social policy and child welfare, public management and business.

The faculty has about 4200 students and nearly 280 members of staff.

Oslo Business School has approximately 1700 students and 70 employees and offers study programmes both at Bachelor and Master level, as well as a wide range of continuing and further education.

Main duties of the position

Oslo Business School is expanding and looking for an associate professor holding a doctoral degree in marketing. The position is divided between research, teaching and supervision of students. The person must be able to teach at both bachelor and master levels, ideally in both English and a Scandinavian language. Undergraduate and graduate teaching responsibilities would involve developing and delivering courses in the following areas: principles of marketing, consumer behavior, digital marketing, marketing communications, branding, and marketing strategy. The person will also supervise undergraduate and graduate students. It is important that the person contribute to the School’s research and teaching development through active participation in our academic environment.

Qualifications

The ranking of qualified applicants is based on scientific merits, but teaching experience is also important together with personal qualities and suitability for the position.  We consider recent publications (last five years) and the potential for future publications of high quality research in applied marketing. The person we hire should fit the profile of our bachelor and master programs. 

Applicants must

  • hold a PhD degree in marketing
  • proficiency in written and spoken English
  • have published in recognized international journals and/or document your potential for future publications
  • have good teaching skills

General criteria for appointment of a position as associate professor are stipulated in Regulations relating to Appointment and Promotion to Teaching and Research Positions (Forskrift om ansettelse og opprykk i undervisnings- og forskerstillinger) § 1-2, see details in Norwegian.

Candidates who have no relevant qualifications in pedagogy at the time of appointment must commit themselves to complete OsloMet’s programme for basic pedagogical competence (15 ECTS credits) within two years.

After a preliminary screening process, an expert committee will assess qualified applicants. The university will test pedagogical skills in connection with a personal interview.

  • have a strong research background and the ability and desire to conduct high quality research
  • can demonstrate strong interpersonal skills as well as proficiency in written and spoken English and an Scandinavian language
  • have experience from and an interest in teaching in both traditional classroom as well as online modes
  • can utilize effective advising, teaching and classroom management strategies, which enhance the success of diverse learners

Expert evaluation

An expert committee will assess applicants. You must upload the following documents together with your application by the final date for applications:

  • CV, references and all pages of certificates/diplomas. The certificates/diplomas must include ECTS grades (A–F). Foreign diplomas must be translated into English by the degree-conferring institution. Education taken abroad should preferably be recognised in advance by NOKUT, and a confirmed copy of the letter of recognition should be enclosed.
  • Up to 5 academic documents from the past five years including your PhD dissertation and a list of your publications, if relevant

You must upload all of these documents. Original documents and valid passport must be presented if you are invited for an interview. OsloMet performs document inspections in order to give you as a candidate a proper evaluation and ensure fair competition.

The salary is set in accordance with the Norwegian State Salary Scale, job code 1011 Associate Professor wage scale NOK 516 000 – 648 100 per year. Law deducts 2% of the salary to the State Pension Fund.
